The MCVA Sports Booth Review interns, Emma Raineri, Danielle Lugashi, and Skyler Flynn, led by MCVA associate professor and assistant chair Michelle Pulaski Behling, hosted a panel for Pace University’s annual Social Justice Week. Current students Keira Coyne, Mekhi Solomon, Makayla Morris, and Gianna DiMauro discussed social media backlash facing WNBA players, discrepancies in endorsement deals based on race, and pay differences.

Come learn how local news leaders are keeping Westchester County communities informed, connected, and empowered. The panel discussion “Community Empowerment Through Local News” this Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the Kessel Multipurpose Room will feature leaders of the Examiner, Rivertowns Dispatch, The Recorder and Peekskill Herald. Panelists will share their experiences, challenges, and ideas for strengthening the role of news and information in our region. Come with your own questions and ideas!
The discussion will be moderated by Dr. Kate Fink, who leads Pace University’s own student-powered local news outlet, Pleasantville Press. This event is part of Pace’s Social Justice Week. Refreshments will be served. RSVP on SetterSync.

On Thursday, October 30, from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m., in Kessel MPR, The Pace Chronicle is hosting “PACE Perspectives on Immigration Justice,” featuring Amelia Wilson, the faculty director of the Immigration Justice Clinic based on Pace’s law campus. She will conduct a presentation on immigration and deportation, noting their relevance in today’s political climate. There will be a Q&A, so ask anything you would like! The event will be filmed to watch afterwards for those who are unable to attend.

On Saturday, November 1, from 8:30 am to 2:30 p.m., the NY Press Club will be holding a Journalism Conference at Fordham Law School. This annual conference will feature workshops, lectures, and time to network with professional journalists while discussing topics such as Ice Protest, the use of AI, and the challenging climate that Journalism is currently facing.
The event will also include Breakfast and Lunch covered by your ticket, and swag will be available for attendees.

On Monday, November 10, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm, the Fordham Dept of Communications and Media Studies will be honoring MSNBC anchor Ali Velshi with the Ann M. Sperber Book Prize for their “Small Acts of Courage: A Legacy of Endurance and the Fight for Democracy.” Also, due to the 25th anniversary of the award, journalist Connie Chung will receive the Distinguished Career Award for her memoir, “Connie: A Memoir.”
